The rule of usenet is simple...
If you want to see posts about a certain topic, post them.
Because if you won't, why should anyone else?
Zebee
You could also add aus.motorcycles and cross post and give them the
s**ts as well, sure they would like to read about the Brookes saddle or
a message from Ed Dolan the Great. :)
True.
Some of the aus.motorcycle crowd are also present and prominent
in aus.bicycle.
They tend to be highly chatty, although a bit of an in-crowd. A club of
marginals if you like, but not evil or stupid (plus or minus)...
...but if you choose to exclude them (from your observations), then
aus.bicycle looks very flat. And a flat = a bad thing...
PS: Ed Dolan is psychotic.
PPS: Brookes saddles are OK, but only in a nostalgic sense. I had
one and it was OK, but the break-in time is agony.
Tomasso.
Being a comfort-loving lounge chair rider... I think they are *all*
agony!
Although I have found the wide "comfort" saddles not all that comfy
when I did ride uprights. Never had a Brooks though, I suspect that
given the stories I suspect my wimp level is lower than their break in
time is long...
Zebee
Hey! Speak for yourself! I'm all of the above!
(remember when cfsmtb and steve and lama and the like were here?
Those were the days).

Is he still around?

A pain in the arse?

I agree it would be flat without them - where is everyone from a year
or more ago - were they all M*tor Cyclists then - didn't seem so?
(I've been sleeping here for years) OK saddles what about helmets?

I suspect that the gateway from cycleforums died and was never fixed.
Zebee
That's what happened and it was an interesting sign of the critical mass
you need for a forum to work. The combined numbers on aus.bicycles and
cycling forums users made for a pretty busy little community. But once
the link dropped, aus.bicycles got very quiet and cyclingforums died.
DaveB
I suspected that the link was killed off because too much junk was
getting propagated to cycleforums, notably from somebody who was
mentioned further up in this thread (and whose name I won't repeat).
Pity 'bout that.

fascinating!
I assumed that forums were the new thing and so that would just keep
growing..
on the other hand what makes numbers is conversation, and I think
there were enough different opinions between aus.bicycle and
cyclingforums that the conversations happened.
I wonder if the gateway was resurrected if they'd both pick up...

Another factor was there were a lot of Victorians, BV set up their own
(open) forums and they migrated. I miss cfsmtb
http://www.blogcatalog.com/blogs/cfsmtb-in-low-earth-orbit-1.html
Because a few aus.bicycle people attended the Unaugural this year?
Also, do you really want aus.bicycle to end up looking as sad and
empty as this?

Cycling newsgroups seem to attract a disproportionate number of
nutcases, so unless you have some sort of registration process you end
up with a lot of rubbish being posted.
Not a disproportionate number.
And what causes lots of rubbish isn't the nutcases...it's the people
who can't stop replying to them.
WHich makes forums far harder to read because they don't have
killfiles.

I believe cfsmtb to be ChrisS of http://www.melbournecyclist.com/
A conclusion that is fairly obvious if one were to read the blog!!!
I was wondering what happenned to this group, 3 years ago, just before I
left Sydney to move to Brisbane (only to move back to Shitney again but
that's another story) there was a lot of activity in here, especially
anything relating to cycle touring etc., with lottebum, and Hippie, Terry C
and one bloke who really got stuck into me once because I sent everyone a
nice Xmas cheer (maybe it was the grinch).
Oh yeah and that dickhead from wherever he comes from (his name is not worth
mentioning but I know you all know who I mean) .I would not give that
crossposting moron the privaledge to have his name in my post.I'm sure even
he knows he doesn't have the audience there once was...but everyone just
sick of his garbage.
There were a few others and quite a few from Brisbane and Melbourne who used
to post here regularly(sorry I've forgotten many names) but they were very
prominant in this aus.bicycle ng. it's a bloody shame but I'm sure those who
have been here and contributed have moved on to better things...I hope so!!
I'll still check in from time to time.
Cheers
