Lucky pilot - could have been much worse.
** Poor Pelican - got cut in half.
Lucky it was not an Albatross .....
..... Phil
Albatross may have larger wing span .... but I reckon considerably less bird
mass (mess).
Or were you referring to the legendary bad luck that ensues from killing an
albatross? :)

Depends on what flavor albatross it is, I s'pose...
However, because the priests bashed Wordsworth and Samuel Taylor
Coleridge into our brain boxes (among other Dogma)
The Albatross for some reason remain fairly intact
much preferred over his work/s relating to
Kubla Khan
For those of with remnants of a classic education or just to understand
that which refers to such things as Albatross Flavour/ Albatross about
ones neck etc
here is the *Rime* of Coleridgeś lovely Poem
With half decent text accompanying the verse
(It apply s to Airmen re WX as well ) :)

`God save thee, ancient Mariner !
From the fiends, that plague thee thus !--
Why look'st thou so ?'--With my cross-bow
I shot the ALBATROSS.
It's bleedin' seabird bleedin flavour!!
