Like me, you all probably think you usually get special service only
from special dedicated smaller outfits like Trevor Lees or Phillipe's
Tivoli Hi Fi. And that's often the case.
We usually think of the mass-merchandisers like JB Hi Fi as great for
discounted prices on high-volume prices, but not great on individual
service.
Well, I've just come through a mini-saga which I'm sure was as hard
for JB Camberwell as it was for me. The task was to ensure that I
could buy a Panasonic flat-screen and qualify for their current big
bonus offer (I chose the $990 dual-drive DVD recorder). I couldn't
take immediate delivery as I'm in process of moving from NSW to
Melbourne, so they had to agree not just to hold the goods until I
moved, but make sure I got sent the original invoice, got the proper
serial number etc etc so I could qualify in advance of my move. If I'd
waited until the move, I'm sure the bonus offer would have expired.
It was a great deal for me. I was able to buy the unit which my wife
and I had already decided was the one we wanted after several in-store
viewings near where we presently live. And we were able to get the
bonus hard-drive recorder, and lodge bonus claim at a distance of many
hundred of kilometers.
So thanks to Andrew, Tarkan, Shelley and Matt of JB Hi Fi. I'm sure
they were all totally fed up with me by the end of the process, but I
really appreciate your energetic help and concern. Yes, I guess it was
just another sale for them, but it certainly made them work a lot
harder to get it, and they seemed really happy to do it. And just as
an afterthought -- thanks Panasonic for a great bonus offer. I would
have loved all the bonus offerings but I'm only in the market for one
flat-screen right now! The new projector comes next though ... should
it be Panasonic or Epson?
