Would it be possible for people who successfully complete this ride to use it as a qualifier for next year's ACE?
Peter
Sounds good to me. Maybe other ride organisers, especially outside Vic, could let me know of other Audax rides that would be good qualifiers for the ACE 250.
We seem to get the qualification process just about right, but then again we spend a deal of time individually e-mailing riders, especially non Audaxians, checking on their rides/riding/finishing times and the like.
This year I erred with 2 overseas riders whose qualifiers were more difficult to gauge and unfortunately they DNFed otherwise the other few that DNFed had done to the 250 previously, done the AAC 200 or had successfully completed the 2010-3 Peaks in more difficult circumstances.
Any feedback on the ACE 250 qualifying rides/process appreciated.

Isn't it better to triumph by the strength of your

Having completed 2 ACEs I think qualifying rides for it should include several sustained15km+ climbs and "meters of ascent per total kms" of 15m/ km or more.
My rule of thumb for wether a ride is what I call "hilly" is anything over 10m/km, "mountainous" 15m/km.
When I rode the '09 Dungog 600 (6065m in 620km = 9.78m/km) I remember Garry Armsworth commenting that his rule of thumb was 8m/km for "hilly".

Thanks for that.Good stuff.
Maybe the Ride Calendar could have a symbol or something against rides considered as ACE 250 qualifiers.
Might be a way of attracting new folk/members to Audax and the Audaxian way cos all the rides which make up the Alpine Classic attract riders who are used to participating in some of the more popular events which do not necessarily require the same level of self reliance/thought/skills in terms of nutrition, hydration, clothing, spares and repairs (If you need it - You carry it/If it breaks - You fix it) although the AAC, being a more public, event by necessity, does molly coddle the participations a bit more than a normal Audax ride.

When I said "just joking" I was thinking, "lets not complicate Pete's relatively simple SE organisation (compared to the ACE) with compulsory qualifiers". Certainly as an unofficial qualifier for the SE, the ACE is most suitable, despite having slightly less overall metres of ascent / total kms.

Hi Matt - I will be based in Loudeac from around late Monday evening/ night if that's any use to you on your way back (I won't arrive there until after you've been through on your way to Brest). Happy to support you there if we can work out a way to stay in contact. Best of luck with achieving your goal.
Cheers
