Four Kinects! How do you keep the Kinects from interfering with each other?
Or do you just get interference and clean it up when you're building the
mesh?

I do not yet have any video, but I can make something up.
The short of it is that I have the kinects mounted vertically on a studio light pole and placed adjacent to the stage. With one high pointing downward, one at chest level, one at hip level and one around knee level. This does not quite capture the feet so I am still playing with placement and how much overlap is required in order to get the mesh.
The software I ended up with is KScan (http://www.kscan3d.com). It's made by 3D3 Solutions (http://www.3d3solutions.com) which is the system I was considering before. KScan is cheap ($300 as opposed to $15k for hardware and software) and runs with multiple scanners.
I like KScan over reconstruct me because it has a much nicer interface along with the multi scanner support which reconstruct me does not have. The software was just released in Aug I think so there is still room for improvements.
This is my version one setup, I have started looking at Arduino/Raspberry Pi options for collecting scan data to get rid of the $1700 rotating stage, and the $1500 computer (per 4 scanners) requirement. I would ultimately like to drive 16 - 20 scanners and create a sort of real-time scanning booth. Then it would be almost as quick to capture a whole body scan as it would be to click the shutter of a regular camera.

A note about multiple scanners, they need to be plugged in such that there is only one controller per root usb controller. It will not work with a hub or more than one to a controller. I had to build a new box to get 4 working.

Interesting. Given the amount of captures they showed in the demonstration it would be possible to get a large array to do that in one capture. I don't see any guideline about how much of a mesh overlap is required to stitch the images though.
Any interest in bringing rig 1 to the hackerspace for a photo-op? (once open)

Sure thing, I am probably going to set it up in a small office space I have in Round Rock if you're (or anyone else is) interested in checking it out.
I have seen or heard reference to the overlap needing to be approx. 30%. But I am experimenting with that still.

I don't see any guideline about how much of a mesh overlap is required to stitch the images though.

Yeah, I was about to say that this is a marketable product. It's a neat
idea, and such a logical extension of the two concepts, it's surprising
people haven't done it before, and that you got it up and running so
quickly. Awesome!

p.s. I'd like one of someone doing aerials. I'm probably not the only one,
but that's a little more complicated!

I am interested in the make n bake, I am trying to make a business out of this and would be great to get it out and see how it goes.
Mandy do I talk to you about details of the make n bake? My one limitation is that I have a baby due mid december, although it seems she is intent on coming sooner than later :) So that may affect my ability to make it.
Attached is one of the products I intend to sell. This is a charm for my wife's bracelet that I made of her with our second baby. The bear is for our first, too bad I didn't have this back then. I am also working on sculptures and other stuff.

What is the status of the z-printer now that there is a new space?
Any chance there is a possibility of getting a printer that does metal or ceramic? It would be nice to ditch shapeways. Although I would assume something like that would be waaaay expensive.
