Hi,

I'm very disappointed in the loss of the RT ratings in the XMLTV feed,
a key parameter to determine if something's worth watching or not.
Also the film reviews are no longer proper reviews, they're
perfunctory descriptions with minimal depth. Take "The Bourne
Ultrimatum" as an example:

NEW:
Amnesiac rogue assassin Jason Bourne's long-buried memories are
reawakened by a British journalist researching the secret organisation
who were responsible for transforming him into a killing machine.
Meanwhile, a ruthless CIA director becomes convinced Bourne is still a
high security risk, and plans to dispose of him once and for all.
Third instalment of the spy thriller series, directed by Paul
Greengrass and starring...

OLD:
In the third film based on author Robert Ludlum's bestsellers, former
CIA agent Jason Bourne (Matt Damon) hits the ground running - and from
then on the pace never slackens. The subtle and simple script is
dazzling, as Bourne zips through stunning global locations to discover
the truth about his past and take revenge on those responsible for his
brainwashed plight. Damon has really made the role of the troubled
assassin his own, and returning director Paul Greengrass employs the
same hand-held camera technique he used in The Bourne Supremacy to add
immediacy and up-close-and-personal thrills to the terrific stunts.
With flashbacks to both previous episodes, and stars Joan Allen and
Julia Stiles returning to marvellous effect, this instalment is
essentially one long chase that never loses its grip or credibility.
Nothing is overplayed, from the scary surveillance tracking methods to
the high-level corruption, making this a superbly crafted masterclass
in intelligent action film-making.

Spot the difference?
This is a significant loss, and a clear example of "dumbing down".
What would it take to restore these to their former state?

If you read back over the list, you'll see that they are hopefully
returning soon. It's almost as if you've come here and posted without
even glancing at the existing topics first :-(

That's still too long for a synopsis (description). Better:
Amnesiac rogue assassin Jason Bourne's long-buried memories are
reawakened by a British journalist researching the secret organisation
who were responsible for transforming him into a killing machine.
Meanwhile, a ruthless CIA director becomes convinced Bourne is still a
high security risk, and plans to dispose of him once and for all.

That "directed by Paul Greengrass and starring..." stuff doesn't
belong there. The director and actors are already in the data,
separately so should NOT be duplicated.

Yes, it's a Review, it's not a Description/synopsis.

There is definitely room for both, and people who want both.

The data provider has changed, there are bound to be teething issues.
For me, the "former state" was WRONG and long detailed reviews should
just not be in that field in the data. They belong in a new field. So
I don't want the old state, yet I don't like the current state either
(see comments about directors and actors being shoved into the
descriptions).

Cheers,
Mike

Yes, it was late... I responded to the request here with my thoughts:

My view remains that the xmltv feed as was was pretty hard to fault,
and if it ain't broke...
