Wednesday looks excellent for some XC flying! 33º spread between the
floor and 6K. Freezing temp will be down to 6k ft with L&V winds to
9k. If we can put together a gaggle it'll be easier for everyone to go
somewhere!

33º spread refers to the temperature difference between the floor
(~800ft) and 6K feet. A typical day is 19º for that altitude
difference. A 33º spread equates to a -14.4 Thermal Index or 6.3º per
1K feet. Standard Lapse Rate is 3.6º per 1K feet. L&V wind refers to
Light & Variable or winds of variable direction/less than 5 mph.
Around 9K feet the winds aloft jump to 19MPH so there's likely to be a
bit of a shear layer somewhere between 6k and 9k.

It was indeed most excellent! Got just short of Hartwell Lake, then
turned around and made it back to the Subway. Great climbs to 5600
with a bunch of low saves along the way. Got bloody cold above 4500
but it felt good. Was trying hard to make it all the way back to the
school, but just couldn't buck the headwind and the day was shutting
down by 4:30.

Max climb: 1,600 fpm
Max sink: 980 fpm
Total time: 3:02 hours.

Very nice adventure Chris.

You’re probably the only one having fun today. Congrats.

Hynek.
