Briefly, I have a couple years experience with SQL and use SSMS. I
have now plunged into the BI world (Data Warehouse, SSIS, SSAS, SSRS).
I am very interested in becoming a programer using TSQL and C#. I know
one needs to write a lot of code to learn, and I plan to do just that.
What I am looking for is someone to talk to about this, I guess a
mentor of sort. Anyone? email (pd...@allstate.com). Thanks to all.

pd,
You don't really say to what extent you've jumped into the SSIS, etc.
world. But there's a rich set of skills that you can learn there that
are really in demand. I'd venture to say that progressing into the BI
skills wouldn't do you any harm.
SQL itself is fairly simple. If you learn well from books, something
that I use to help new SQL programmers is something like a SQL
'cookbook'. O'"Rielly has one. It's simply a book of sql problems and
ways to solve them.

Pete -
5 months ago I started learning SQL and was plunged into the BI world too. To learn SQL, TSQL, SSRS, SSIS, etc I found a great affordable ($300) video based training course at http://www.learnitfirst.com. The videos are very easy to follow and downloadable so you can reference them whenever you want. I only used certain chapters initially then I go back and reference the others as I figure out more. There is a Visual Studio 2005 package which includes C# and VB programming. I believe you can view a sample to see if it fits your learning style. I hope this helps!
