Hey Jay,

This was brought up in another thread, yet is there an easy fix to
allow arrivals and departures to have different colors. This is
optimize the amount of brain power it takes to...smoothly and crisply
vector planes into the Kennedy Airport!

Keep up the great work!

Dylan!!!!

I like this idea. Its really difficult to just glance across the
screen and know which plane is going where. Here's just a couple of
suggestions.

Pre-Takeoff: Yellow
Takeoff/Post-Takeoff: Green

Arriving: Grey
On Approach: Blue

I'm not really sure about a good color scheme, but I think it is good
to separate these out in the right hand margin with flight
information.

The Sim is amazing.

I agree with this scenario completely.

Personal opinion, too busy, especially for those of us partly colorblind.

If color coding is under consideration, how about just color coding the altitude and arrow indicators (green and red work well).

Colorblind controllers? Hmmmm.

While the sim may be a game, air traffic control is not. If ATC-SIM players
want to get a feel for what controllers do, then they should do it the way
controllers do it; i.e., KNOW your traffic situation so that you don't have
to rely on the automation to keep you aware of what you're doing. The more
controllers rely on technology the less they're able to recover and maintain
safety when it fails. Having been an FAA controller in both pre-automation
and post-automation environments, I've seen many cases where the increasing
level of automation "help" for the controllers has actually resulted in
increasing their workload and decreasing their situational awareness.
Colorblindness and other human factor issues have always been a factor in
why FAA has traditionally tried to avoid using color only to convey critical
control information.

It there's one thing colorblind people can't do, it's separating green
from red...
Green and red therefore would be a very bad choice.

Yellow/blue are way better.

Not to mention nonradar scenarios but however it is what it is, a game!

it's browns, oranges and purples that give me grief, not green and red.

Yes, too busy, unnecessary, and not a priority improvement, compared
to fixing the highscore formula or chain commands, or busy mode!

Although not a controller, I would have to say that the use of colors
is used quite a bit in aviation. In fact, as you say it's used to
convey critical information. Whether it's on the airplane itself, on
the runway, on the taxiway or on buildings, the use of colors is very
necessary. (After all, at night, you don't want somebody landing on a
taxiway).

I say just distinguishing between departures and arrivals on the
screen would be a huge improvement.
