Hi everyone,

As promised, we have created a new website for Astropy using Kyle's
logo, and the theme Eli suggested, and we're very happy to show you
the result, which is now live at http://www.astropy.org!

At this stage, please don't advertise the website widely. The
documentation still needs some work ahead of the 0.1.0 release, and we
want to advertise things more widely only once everything is ready for
release.

Please take a minute to take a look at the website, and let us know if
you see any issues/mistakes, or any missing information. The source
code is located at https://github.com/astropy/astropy-website, so to
report issues and suggestions, please either open an issue in that
repository, or even better, open a pull request with the changes you
want to suggest! For minor typos/wording changes, you can just email
me directly.

We hope you like the new design!

Cheers,
Tom

ps: thanks to everyone who gave feedback on GitHub during the design phase!

Looks pretty slick! I'm a fan of the bootstrap theme and the colors. On readthedocs the logos are massive, doesn't look so great on my laptop.

I've got the same problem--the logos on the docs are HUGE even on my
desktop monitor. Wonder what's going on with that.

At some point we'll want to do some more reorganization of the docs so
that they're more readable as a comprehensive document (perhaps with
all the API docs at the end). But until the various subpackages are
better integrated I don't know that it's a priority...

When you say the logo is "huge", are you referring to the logo on the
sidebar, the logo/banner on the index page, or both? I agree that's
not right and am in the process of fixing it (see
https://github.com/astropy/astropy/pull/205 ), but the sidebar logo
should be ~ 200 x 200 - if it's larger than that then something's
wrong...

I was specifically referring to the banner on the index page. The
sidebar logo also look kind of big to me, but at least it's the right
size for the sidebar. I like your proposal in the pull request though
to make it a little smaller with some margin around it.

This looks nice, including the logo. I'm happy to see astropy.org
being put to good use :-). By the way, whois tells me that the
domain expires on 21 July, so we should sort out its custody in the
near future. I'm guessing that if the registration expires, some
spammer-type robot will snap it up and demand a higher price to get
it back.

Cheers,

James (just back from travel).
