1. Public Event about Kepler Mission Planet Discoveries

Scientists involved with the search for planets around other
stars are gathering at NASA Ames Dec. 5 - 9 for a technical
conference devoted to the Kepler spacecraft discoveries.

Tuesday evening, Dec. 6th, there will be a public event
from 7 to 10 pm at the NASA Ames Research Center in
Mountain View. The evening is free, but you must reserve
tickets at the Eventbrite web site:
http://keplerpublictalk.eventbrite.com/
(where you can find more information and directions.)

Participants include Dr. Natalie Batalha, a superb public speaker
who has a knack for explaining scientific ideas in everyday language.

2. Frank Drake to Speak to the Peninsula Astronomical Society

Dr. Frank Drake, the scientist who pioneered the search for
intelligent life in the universe, will give a rare public lecture to a
meeting of the Peninsula Astronomical Society on Friday evening,
Dec. 9th, at 7:45 pm, in room 5015 at Foothill College in Los
Altos Hills. The talk is free and open to the public, but parking on
campus costs $2.00. Parking Lot 5 is closest to the lecture hall.

Dr. Drake will discuss the past, present, and future of the search
for signs of intelligence among the stars, including the newer
technique called 'Optical SETI'. His talk is entitled "The
Status of SETI in 2011"
