I tried Pentium and Pentium3..neither worked.. :(

Ensure that your SIP client supports (and is configured to negotiate)
G.729a. Also, ensure that your sip.conf is not configured so as to
disallow the codec. In particular, if you use disallow=all anywhere,
it must precede the allow directives. For further details, use
asterisk's sip debug feature.
