Johnson City 0 Asheville 74

This was a game that tends to be close, last two times we have played Johnson City we won but not by this large a margin. We didn’t get off to a very good start, with the pack not calling to receive kick ball which was rather annoying and we set out like we did with triad. It took us about tens minutes to sort our selves out.  We where under pressure quickly from Johnson City keeping us in our 22. Our pack was relative new we preformed well.  We were still too slow to the rucks especially when players broke three tackles but tackled on the four or fifth. We stood looking instead of supporting so we could have quicker  ball out while the opposition is in some disarray. We also had some high tackles and missed tackles which put us under some pressure but lucky for us Johnson City was unable to capitalize on the break. Our defense was rather good and kept Johnson City shut down both in pack and backs.  Scrums where ok we need to practice driving more.  The interlinking with scrumhalf and number 8 worked well, my only two issues with the pack were that they did not follow through on line outs against us and put Johnson City back line under pressure  or move quickly enough to anticipate the next break down. My main annoyance was pack members lining up between scrumhalf and stand off getting in the way when scrummy was about to pass instead getting out of the passing lane as they where flat and the 10 man was taking at pace.

With Brain Marshall as captain playing 10 man gave us option in the back line kicking which worked a treat in the second half when we had the wind with us and he score a couple of nice tries with chips and long ball kicks putting Johnson city under some pressure. Our backs played a good game when they had the ball it was good to see them support and ruck when required taking early ball and getting up quick on Johnson City’s back line.  We seem more as a team and read the game better.  We still had individuals who where had try line fever when they had support either side of them all in all a good game to watch.

Matt played an excellent game in line and ruck helping to assisted in two tries. Picking and go worked well.  Chase also had a good game at number 8 helping pushing up the score.  Tony did a good job in keeping the pack going and directing play at penalties moves.

Yet again good game by Donnie at scrum half. He is getting around the scrums quicker and better each time he plays keep it up! Donnie was name man of the match for is hard work and keeping the ball alive.

There was only four issues which I am not happy with which we will look at in practice, but rather a enjoyable game looking more like a team then individuals.  Our playing ability is getting better need to be more aware of what is going off just not your part of the game more of the whole picture commutation is a key fact in this.

Well done lads!!  I like the high scores we are having and fitness levels have help us a lot  and your determination to win ball and score and not to give up that what we need lets keep it going for when we meet triad so we will progress to the next round.
