Folks who have expressed interest in our natural building project in the past.
We are going to have a Finish Plaster Workshop in just under a month. We will have Sigi Koko come and lead the workshop. She has led workshops with us regarding straw bale construction, cob wall construction, and introducing clay plastering techniques. This workshop will focus on making very fine plasters to provide a final/finish coat to clay and cob walls. It should be really fun and informative. (In addition, you'll be able to see the beginnings of an earthen floor that we will put down in about a week.) Please see the general flyer below. If you have any problem opening it, please feel free to write me back and I'll send it in another form.
If you are interested in registering, please either email or call me directly. We need to cover costs of Sigi's instruction, food and housing, so a deposit is required. Because this workshop will be inside, we want to keep the numbers low. Hope you can come. Please feel free to forward this to anyone you know who might be interested.

Finish Clay Plaster Workshop
June 15-17, 2012
near Harpers Ferry, West Virginia Roll up your sleeves, take off your shoes, and get your fingers and toes down in the mud! Woodhaven is ready for finish plaster work on cob and straw bale walls. Sigi Koko will show the how and why of mixing and applying non-toxic, inexpensive, and beautiful clay plasters, as well as discussing methods of pigmentation, approaches to finish textures, and sealants. Woodhaven is the fifth and final house to be built at Rolling Ridge Study Retreat, in keeping with the covenant to preserve most of the land as mountain wilderness. It will provide much needed space for residential staff to be able to continue to care for the land and to nurture retreat programs.
- Friday evening - Tour of worksite, cookout/campfire (weather permitting) and discussion of natural building
- Saturday with Sigi - Overview of clay finish, demonstrations of various techniques, and ample hands-on experience mixing and applying site-based and kaolin clay plasters
- Sunday - Plastering and camaraderie of shared work
