Festival in Cannes
Henry Jaglom, a Hollywood outsider (loved by some and hated by many), known for his combining narrative film and personal documentary in a unique way. He doesn’t actually star in Festival (as he does in many of his films, e.g. Always, Eating, BabyFeaver; but Festival is definitely characteristic of Jaglom’s oeuvre.
Greta Scacchi plays an actress who’s written a play and wants to direct it; she has her eye on veteran actress Millie (Anouk Aimee) to star. Millie’s ex, Viktor (Maximillian Schell) is a has-been director who’s looking for financing for a film. Rick Yorkin, a big-time producer; and Kaz (Zack Norman, a regular in Jaglom films), a producer from the other end of the spectrum, do their wheeling and dealing. A young starlet, Blue (Jenny Gabrielle), observes all of this with wonderment, as her life changes. Many notable film figures who were attending the festival make cameo appearances.
Festival in Cannes was filmed entirely during the 2001 Cannes Film Festival. This year’s festival is taking place (May 15-26) as we screen this film, so sit back and pretend that you’re there.
(Directed by Henry Jaglom, 2002, United States, 99 min., color, PG-13)
"Daffy, engrossing,
enlightening and entertaining."
-- Rex Reed, NEW YORK OBSERVER
"An amused indictment of Jaglom's own profession."
-- Andy Klein, NEW TIMES LOS ANGELES
“There are three ways to look at Henry
Jaglom's new film, "Festival in Cannes." Fortunately, all of them are
delightful.” Stephen Hunter (not a fan of Jaglom) - Washinton Post
