MAY  EVENTS

Spring is finally in the air! This month the gallery hosts a silent auction to benefit House of Ruth. Twenty-eight of Baltimore’s finest artists have donated stunning artwork that will be offered for amazing prices. See details below. At the end of the month, the fine folks from the journal Passager host a reading for Moira Egan, our favorite jet-setting poet. And as always, we are your go-to spot for Essential Sundays Poetry, Town Square Open Mic, yoga classes, and belly-dancing.

POETRY

Book Release Party and Reading for Moira Egan’s Hot Flash Sonnets

Friday, May 31 / 7:00 pm / free

Join Passager Books for an evening of disorientation and disclosure, of serious craft as well as belly laughs.

Poet Moira Egan finally turned 50 and it was a good thing. Her poetic journey has gotten ever sweatier and sexier, and in her latest collection, Hot Flash Sonnets, she explores the sultry joys and humorous indignities of becoming “a woman of a certain age.”

Sonnets from the collection have been published in such journals as Baltimore Review, Bellevue Literary Review, Columbia Review, Little Patuxent Review, Mount Hope, Parnassus: Poetry in Review, Passager, So to Speak, The Same, and the Sewanee Theological Review. Poems have also garnered honors in the 2012 literary competition of the Baltimore Review (on the theme of heat, naturally) and in the Sonnet category of the 2012 Soul-Making Keats Literary Competition of the National League of American Pen Women.

Of the Hot Flash Sonnets, former national  Poet Laureate Billy Collins has said that Moira’s “...unabashed admissions, balanced by the sonnet’s strictures and the wit of her endings, extend to the reader the double pleasure of craft and disclosure.”

Reception to follow. For more information, contact  moir...@gmail.com.
