Sir Tim Berners-Lee
[Sat, 25 August, 12:00 – 13:00] |
 |
A graduate of Oxford University, Sir Tim Berners-Lee invented the World Wide Web, an internet-based hypermedia initiative for global information sharing while at CERN, the European Particle Physics Laboratory, in 1989. He wrote the first web client and server in 1990. His specifications of URLs, HTTP and HTML were refined as Web technology spread.
Sir Tim Berners-Lee is the Director of the World Wide Web Consortium (W3C). He has also promoted open government data globally and is a member of the UK's Transparency Board. Berners-Lee is a Director of the World Wide Web Foundation, launched in 2009 to coordinate efforts to further the potential of the Web to benefit humanity.
In 2001, Sir Tim Berners-Lee became a Fellow of the Royal Society. He has been the recipient of several international awards, and in 2004 he was knighted by H.M. Queen Elizabeth and in 2007 he was awarded the Order of Merit. In 2009 he was elected a foreign associate of the National Academy of Sciences.

Telefónica Talentum – Share the Stage!
[Sat, 25 August, 10:00 – 11:00] |
 |
With Campus PartyEurope, Telefónica is bringing the world’s biggest technology event to Europe, unleashing the potential of 10,000 young innovators under one roof in Berlin this August where they can use digital technology to challenge convention, show off and test their ideas.
A lack of skills owing to a 'brain drain' inspired Telefónica's Talentum initiative. Talentum is based on a simple idea – betting on young people and technology as the future of Europe. Talentum does this by creating job and digital learning opportunities for thousands of young people and university graduates. By 2015 we will have an additional 6,000 young people in our business through graduate programmes, internships and apprenticeships via Talentum.

Nano Technology: The Alchemy of the 21st Century
[Sat, 25 August, 11:00 – 12:00] |
 |
We have not yet found the philosopher's stone to transmute lead into gold, but we are able to change the properties of the elements so that they behave in radically new ways. Red gold, transparent carbon, magnetic palladium are some of the new ingredients in basket of the 21st alchemist which is full of new materials with exotic names like graphene, quantum dots and fullerenes. The applications of nanotechnology are countless; from more advanced medical treatments for cancer, new materials for ultraclean energy technologies, to quantum computing to bio-nanotechnology. But their best applications have not even imagined. There are also many great business opportunities at the nano scale, an emerging technology able to create a whole new industry; so we do need a new generation of entrepreneurial scientists willing to take the risk of changing the world. We invite you to a journey into the infinitely small to the greatest technological revolution of this century. Join us in this approach to one of the branches with the greatest potential in the scientific field, nanotechnology. Studying matter at the atomic and molecular level, these nano-materials present completely new phenomena and properties when handled. In this conference you will discover all the applications of nanotechnology in areas as diverse as computing, medicine and renewable energy.
Speaker
Javier García Martínez is Professor of Chemistry and Director of the Nanotechnology Molecular Laboratory at the University of Alicante, Spain. He has been published extensively in the areas of nano-materials, catalysis and energy. Latest books: "Nanotechnology for the Energy Challenge" (Wiley-VCH) and "The Chemical Element: Chemistry's Contribution to our Global Future" (Wiley-VCH). Javier is co-founder of Rive Technology in Boston, USA, a clean energy company commercializing advanced catalyst technology. The proprietary technology, invented by Javier during his post-doc at MIT, makes traditional zeolite catalysts more accessible to large hydrocarbon molecules. He was awarded the 2005 Europa Medal, presented to the outstanding European chemist under the age of 35, and received the Silver Medal of the European Young Chemist Award in 2006. In 2007, he received the TR 35 Award from MIT's Technology Review magazine. In 2009, Javier was selected as Young Global Leader by the World Economic Forum, where he is now vice-chair of the Global Agenda Council on Emerging Technologies. He is a fellow of the Royal Society of Chemistry and member of the Global Young Academy and of the Bureau of the International Union of Pure and Applied Chemistry.

Watercooling - Modding
[Sat, 25 August, 14:30 – 16:30] |
 |
Cooling is a key aspect to achieve the best system performance of computer equipment. Traditionally we use air cooling, but watercooling apart from being quieter gets better results. Learn the secrets of this system and the necessary steps to implement it on your computer.
Speaker
Hans Peder Sahl (Denmark). He has been casemodding since he started playing with computers. Some of his first mods were very experimenting using different materials. He is experimenting until today and always aiming to try something new. His general aim in modding is to create something people have not seen before, and he admits that he will get bored if he has to make something thousands of other people have already made. His latest mod, PC-Beto made it into the magazine Custom PC twice, was nominated for Bit-Tech´s Mod of the year, and won Mod of the month. At the moment he is very fascinated by 3D printing and uses this method a lot in his current mod "Project M8", which he will bring to Campus Party Europe in Berlin. When he is not modding or trying out a new watercooling gear, he studies Integrated Design at the University of Southern Denmark.

Making interactive albums via mobile apps / Are apps the future format for albums?
[Sat, 25 August, 15:30 – 16:30] |
 |
Smartphones are now the primary way in which we consume music on-the-go. But these devices can do so much more than simply stream music from the Internet or play songs from their own internal storage. In this talk, Yuli will explore the ever growing world of agile music, its characteristics, and the role of the music app as a new format for albums, including live examples of generative, interactive and reactive music, from RjDj Inception the App, to Björk's Biophilia.
Speaker
Yuli Levtov is director of Reactify, a mobile app and sound installation production company dedicated to exploring new ways of experiencing and consuming music. Having worked at the pioneering 'reactive music' app company, RjDj, he continues to work on new and innovative ways to perform and interact with sound. Reactify builds groundbreaking mobile apps for labels and artists, interactive music installations for events and festivals, custom musical instruments for the stage, and much more. Specialising in interactive, generative and reactive music systems, Reactify is constantly looking to push the boundaries of modern music consumption and creation.

Music marketing in social networks
[Sat, 25 August, 16:30 – 17:30] |
 |
While the music industry struggles with massively reduced record sales social networks like Facebook grow immensely. So what could be more natural than using social networks as an alternative way for music marketing?
In an academic research project we examined how social media marketing on Facebook is used for marketing matters in the music industry and how it could be improved. So besides the status quo we could have a small outlook into the trends of future music marketing in social media.
Speaker
Dr. Daniel Schultheiss is Senior Researcher (Post-Doc) at Ilmenau University of Technology (Germany). His research foci include online communication, social networks, digital games and new media in general.
