I find googlecode not so nice to search for bugs or report ones... I
find it pretty confusing

Launchpad is very well done, and it can also track bug from outside,
like in our case webkit... this would provide much accurate
information, as for now a part of the bugs are here, the reste on
webkit, and also some on launchpad/ubuntu...

In launchpad, it would be possible for one issue, to have a track for
the arora project, webkit, and the ubuntu package at the same time...
and maybe other... qt ?

Google code isn't the best, but we are there currently. From the
looks of it Launchpad can be setup to track the bug tracker on google
code perhaps? Looking around I didn't see where I could download
launchpad's source, is it closed source? Tagging a bug as Arora,
QtWebKit and Qt does sound interesting though.

Actually, the Arora project on Launchpad has already been created by
Janusz Lewandowski for reference:
https://launchpad.net/arora

Launchpad is currently closed source but is going to be opened soon:
https://dev.launchpad.net/OpenSourcing

There are several nice things about Launchpad that Google Code lacks
in but there are particular two that I really like:
- one is the already mentioned interaction with outside bug trackers
(see: https://help.launchpad.net/Bugs/RemoteTrackerCoverage)
- second is Rosetta: a web-based interface for translations which
would simplify collaboration between translators.
the only issue is that it doesn't support the .ts format, there is an
open task ticket: https://bugs.launchpad.net/rosetta/+bug/68959
if we moved, we would have to convert translations to .po format, push
them up to rosetta one week before releasing and then convert them
back to ts.

No, don't use rosetta to translate. As a KDE translator, I only have
had bad experience with it. Also, users not familiar with the
translation style can mess up translations.

Also, converting ts2po and back isn't always that reliable in my experience.

i think now there is git import for launchpad
so i guess these days doesn't matter where the code is hosted
(on what server or what pc)
like you said lauchpad could watch the bugs from google code or github
issues

Could you clarify what particular issues have you faced while using
Rosetta?

We would have translations maintainers anyway, the only difference is
that anyone could easily suggest any changes but those changes would
still need to be reviewed by maintainers and it would be maintainers
having the final word.

Qt 4.5 comes with lconvert, which hopefully works just fine.

Yes, Launchpad supports importing git repositories now but we'd just
set it up only for reference. I think the discussion is about hosting
the project on Launchpad except for the code itself as we'd have to
move to bzr and I doubt that anyone here wants to do so, right?

It's not about our issue trackers on google code or github (we don't
use this one at all) but about third-party trackers: WebKit, Qt, KDE
etc.

I am not really sure what importing the git repo would give us. Even
though we have issues on google code the source is hosted on github.
One of the reasons for that is that we need be we could switch off
github to gitorious in an evening if we had to.

Wasn't launchpad originally made to merge bug trackers? Should it be
able to merge aroras and qts and webkits without arora moving? Qt and
WebKit for example will never move to launchpad.

Launchpad Bugs can track bugs in any Bugzilla and Trac site. There is
code in the works for Bugzilla to enable full bug communication
between Launchpad and Bugzilla so bugs can be forwarded either way and
comments shared.

I believe Launchpad doesn't have wiki support for projects though. It
also works best when using Bazaar with features like linking bugs to
branches.
