In January, 2009 there was an Arora build for Windows 98. How did you
create it and how did you make it run?

I am trying to support Win98 with Qt 4.5.3. It seems the main problem
is that QtWebKit will not run. So I am unable to build applications
that use QtWebKit. I also have been unable to run that build of Arora.

Can you test the browser demo under Win98? If not, please ask at qt-interest:

http://lists.trolltech.com/mailman/listinfo/qt-interest

If the demo works for you, please past the compilation errors for your arora build and also specify the exact toolchain you are using to build arora/qt.

I currently have Qt 4.5.3 installed on a Windows 98 SE box. Designer
and Linguist seem to work, but Assistant fails with:

The QTWEBKIT4.DLL file is
linked to missing export USER32.DLL:GetLastInputInfo.

Of the demonstrations, Aurthur Plugin, Browser, Media Player, and
Boxes will not run.

Of the examples, all the WebKit ones will not launch. Almost
everything else seems to work.

From this screenshot, somebody did get QtWebKit working on Win98. I'm
trying to find out how.

That was not my question.... Are you using the Qt4 sdk (which one)? Which compiler?

If qtwebkit4.dll is missing an export, no application linking to this DLL will be able to run. Can you rebuild Qt locally? Maybe the Webkit code has workaround available at compile time for this issue.

I installed only the Qt framework with MinGW 3.4.2, not the SDK.

Yes, that is what I'm asking about. :-)

BTW, I tried a few times to join the qt-interest list, using different
browsers and machines, but the site didn't respond to my request for
registration.

BTW, why such old version?
Try also the TDM compilers, which will give you a new GCC: http://tdm-gcc.tdragon.net/

NOTE: if you install the TDM/Dragon mingw distribution you will need to rebuild Qt4. This should work, but my experience tells me differently.

Qt 4.6 removed support for windows 98. You can probably compile Qt 4.5 + the current webkit with minor patches.

This is the blog post it came from: http://arorabrowser.blogspot.com/2009/01/modern-webkit-browser-on-windows-98.html

I don't remember what he did to get it working, perhaps copied some dll's, or built it using mingw?

Does QtWebKit not build or not run? What is the error message?

In Qt 4.5.3, the distributed QtWebKit4.dll fails silently on Windows
98. I haven't tried building it yet, since I assumed that wouldn't
work without modification.

I have just tried that Win98 build of Arora with the Qt 4.4.3 binaries
and it does launch, although it crashes in less than a minute. (It is
linked to QtWebKitd4.dll, which is 226MB!)

The WebKit examples in Qt 4.4.3 seem to run OK. That surprised me,
since I thought that unmodified WebKit wouldn't run on Win9x.
