Hi. I downloaded the source to build a deb. I got the following
message...

linux:~/Desktop/arora-0.10.2$ ./builddeb.sh
./builddeb.sh: 4: debuild: not found
dh_testdir
dh_testroot
rm -rf builddir

You need to install the debuild program.

A program is needed to build the .deb/.rpm, for rpm it is rpmbuld for
.deb it looks like it is debuild. What are you trying to build this on
as most distros have arora packages.

I noticed that arora don't release a deb or ubuntu package so I thought I should just try and build a deb package since there's a shell script that handles it.

Ok, you will need the relevant Ubuntu packages for these programs, I
don't know what they are, but the Mandriva ones are qt4-devel and
qt4-linguist. You will need something similar, then just build it with
qmake and make to check that everything is working, I would then check
your distros wiki for building a .deb, they will be the best
instructions.

Hi,

Arora 0.10.1 package is already in official Ubuntu repositories :

http://packages.ubuntu.com/karmic/arora

Cheers.

The bleeding edge is in git. Not packaged. Again you need to

aptitude install debuuild

That's all

Well if it is just for you the building it with:
qmake
make
sudo make install

Or whatever the stupid sudo command is. That will install arora
without any issues.

How do you uninstall? How do you check the installation for modification? What happens when the next version does not contain a file which used to be in older versions?

Please don't advice to use "make install" to people who do not fully understand what's wrong with that. Arora is currently able to run from the build dir, without install. This is what I use personally - no modifications to the file system.

Diego:

You can follow these instructions to create a deb file:

http://www.linuxfordevices.com/c/a/Linux-For-Devices-Articles/How-to-make-deb-packages/

The process is the same for any distro that uses/supports .deb packages. As far as installing the needed software, referenced in the article above, to create the .deb package you will have to check with your distro's instructions on installation (whether it's apt-get, rpm, etc.).

The good thing is, that as far as having to sit down to figure out all the dependencies for the current Arora build, since 0.10.1 has already been added to the Ubuntu repositories (as mentioned in a previous message) most of the work is already done for you. To my knowledge there should be no difference between the current svn build's and the 0.10.1 build's dependencies (someone correct me if I'm wrong).

Hope that gets you moving in the right direction,
Cheers

Hi. Thanks for the tips and response. I thought I would just wait for someone to make a deb version and post it.

if you are considering building a .deb, then using make install should
be something you understand and know fully. I like to not treat people
like incompatent morons in the vain hope that others will start
assuming that someone has a certain level of knowledge by what they
are doing.

Hi. Thanks for all the help. I thought I would try building arora again and it worked. I had to change my qmake to QT4.4 version.

Now arora 0.10.2 is running fine on my side. :D
