I understand that the aluminum fin can and fins are no longer being produced. Does anyone have the cad drawings for these? I would like to look into having someone else produce them…

Tom Rouse still had ARLISS fins and the longer and shorter "cans" fairly recently.  I ordered and received a set of fins and a short aluminum "can" about a year ago.  He doesn't advertise them anywhere I can though.

 

I am curious about a CF (Carbon Fiber?) fin can also.

There was an 6" ARLISS rocket kit with a carbon fiber airframe put together by someone a few years ago.  Maybe the person who did it, or someone who's built theirs could share the details?  (Mine is still unopened in its box.)

I ran into Curtis Turner of Performance Rocketry at Balls 16 and he had a beautiful 6" (I think) CF fin can. Didn't pay that much attention to it at the time (pre-ARLISS days) and he had torked me off pretty badly a few months before.  Never saw a production copy of it. 

 

What did you pay for the CF can?  I might be interested.

Back in the day when I purchased my set..  set of 4 fins from Blacksky was $80 and fin can from the club was $80

 

That was from the first run of cans.   That’s what I recall paying when I did ARLISS.  YMMV

All the design docs and pictures of the machining are at http://feretich.com/Rocketry/superarliss.html  in the section "Common Components" and later.  I'd loan the fin bar rounding fixture if you have a lathe big enough.

They have flown many times in our ARLISS rockets and met the design goal of durability.

I did something similar.  Had the centering rings machined and then bolted them together with the coupler.  Works pretty well with a machined tailcone that is tapped for the all thread.  Start at the bottom and build up to the coupler.

Rings, tailcone and spare rings ran few hundred to get it done.  I don't have access to the machining equipment otherwise.

That's the numbers that I remember. Just wasn't sure. I bought the fins new. I am the second owner of the fin can. I seem to remember paying $60 for the can. So I would take $140 for the fin can and 4 fins. All new and unused.

I also have RMS-98/7680 hardware that I would sell. Aerotech tube and aft closure, and Dr Rocket forward. Again, I'm the second owner. Only a couple of ARLISS flights by the original owner. I paid $240. Will accept same.

All came from Tom. Either directly or indirectly. Gladly delver part way in the Bay Area. It would be good to see this stuff flying Cansats.

Age. I was making reference to the exceptions in the revised Research Safety Code. These exceptions specifically allow both student participation and model rocket activities, but will require some minor changes to our rangehead procedures. All Aero-Pac launches this year are designated as Research Launches, so all adult participants must be Tripoli members to fly.

7.2.1.1. Exception: Non-Tripoli Members age 18 and over that are students of an accredited educational institution may participate in joint projects with Tripoli members. These individuals are allowed in the Research/high power launch area if escorted by a Tripoli member. The maximum number of non member participants shall not exceed 5 per Tripoli Member.

7.2.1.2. Exception: Children younger then 18 years of age may conduct flights from the Model Rocket Launch Area under the direction of an adult Tripoli Member. These individuals are not allowed in the Research/High Power Launch Areas except for recovery of rockets launched from the Model Rocket Launch Area and only then if the Research/High Power Launch Area is open and there are no rockets being launched from there.
