Debian is the way to go. Gentoo is very good but a bit tedious to install
and maintain since it breaks sometimes. DebianPPC is easy and super solid.
I have 4 old machines as Debian servers, 1 with the "Awesome" window
manager if I want to run X.

Just use de debian ppc port, that one is still in active development, even the latest version from archppc does have issues. Also the debian port is more uptodate and you don't have to compile everyting

NO!
Arch ppc is dead and no longer supported. You need to move to Debian, Gentoo or NetBSD

Hi sacarde,

No it is not possible to do an install from the ftp iso due to the
fact that as far as I know all the package mirrors are now offline due
to archlinux ppc being a dead project. You would need a Core iso in
order to do an install.

I'd suggest you go with a distro that officially support PPC such as

install iso ftp-install-ppc

strange... in the system I dont view /etc/start_udev
may be this files are in initramfs ?
p.s.
because I have other systems in that mac-mini
I can chroot in system-arch
but if I reinstall linux-pmac I have:
==> ERROR: /proc must be mounted!
but I mount /dev /proc /sys

You need the data over the hard disk? Boot a Debian live system and copy
them over USB.

Struggling to boot archppc is, IMHO, *stupid*.

I only see now.... that there are 2 errors before:
/etc/start_udev 110 /sbin/udevtrigger: not found
/etc/start_udev 110 /sbin/udevsettle: not found

Edit the configuration of yaboot, instead of hda4 search for sda4 . I
think you updated without reading the (non existing anymore)
instruction.

I don't know why you're AGAIN trying to use a DEAD project, like
ArchPPC.

I have an old installation in mini-g4 ... but now this have an error at
boot:
attempting to create root device '/dev/hda4'
ERROR: Failed to parse block device name for '/dev/hda4' unknown.
ERROR: root fs cannot be detected. Try using the rootfstype= kernel
parameter
waiting for devices to settle ... done
