That bug doesn't contain more specific information that is needed to try
and work out your problem. Please run this command in a terminal:
apport-collect -p alsa-base 651785 so we can get the needed information
from the machine. Please also follow the instructions here,
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/PulseAudio/Log so we can get a better idea of
what may be going on with pulseaudio when the crackling occurs.

This is really a sound driver problem. You may be able to work around
it by adjusting default-fragments and default-fragment-size-msec in
default.pa.

I forgot to mention that I don't have this bug in Ubuntu9.10. (which I
use in dual-boot). I did not try 10.04 as I was not able to install it.

I forgot to mention that I don't have this bug in Ubuntu9.10. (which I
use in dual-boot). I did not try 10.04 as I was not able to install it.

Ok, I played for a while with the 2 parameters, rebooting after each change to be sure that the changes are taken into account.
The bug (cracks every ~10 seconds) was still present, even for the 2 extreme sets of parameters below :

Minimum test set :
default-fragments = 1
default-fragment-size-msec = 1

Maximum test set :
default-fragments = 80
default-fragment-size-msec = 100

FYI, I think the cracks were shorter with the "minimum test set".

Hope this helps.

By the way, is this bug's status still "incomplete" ?

The problem is the kernel. Everything is fine with the Natty(2.6.37-2)
kernel.

I confirm what Barış Özel says : I updated my kernel from 2.6.35.22 to
2.6.35.23 via the Maverick-proposed repositories, and the bug
disappeared.
