Thanks for reporting this problem.

First, I'm wondering what behavior Transmission showed when you tried
File > Quit. Did the window disappear? Did it turn unresponsive? Did it
show the "sending stats to trackers" message with the "Exit now" button?
etc.

Was this with Transmission 2.04 (the default for 10.10)?

Oh, also: does this problem happen every time you use Transmission?

And, do what are the steps that I should follow to reproduce this bug?

Status: New => Incomplete

When I tried File > Quit, nothing happened. It did not even send message
to trackers but just kept downloading. It was as though I had done
nothing.

This problem has vanished now. I think you could close the bug if
nothing is serious with it.

Thanks for the followup.

I notice someone else has seconded this ticket as affecting them,
though. So before I close this ticket I'd like to give them a chance to
comment on this, to say if they're still seeing the problem. If so,
please answer the questions in comment #3. Thank you!

When I try to quit the window becomes grey and unresponsive.

I'm running 2.13-1~lffl~maverick~ppa on maverick

hail, eris

Is the disk active while the window is grey? My first guess is that the
cached files are being flushed to disk. This can take some time if
you've got a lot of data to flush, or if it's a slower drive (such as an
external one), or an encrypted partition, or an NTFS filesystem.

Eris: also, same questions as above: does this problem happen every time
you use Transmission? What are the steps that I should follow to
reproduce this bug?

Not encrypted, not NTFS, not external. SATA internal drives formatted ext4.
I actually think it's a kernel file system bug. I periodically have problems with firefox failing to shut down as well (usually with GNOME System Monitor saying something about sync).
I have something like 18 TB of storage.
And yes, I'm foolish enough to have tracker active searching most of that.
It's usually when I'm trying to shut down the system that I notice the problem with transmission. I'll close Firefox, Rhythmbox, every other active program -- then I try to close Transmission, the window turns grey, and, as far as I can tell, never finishes closing. Then, I give up and restart. The next time Transmission starts it probably spends some time verifying one of the torrents.
If I can find exactly how to reproduce the problem I'll let you know.
