(US/ny) Ex-cops battle animal abuse for SPCA

NEWBURGH — He spent 21 years investigating and putting away bad guys
as a New York City police officer and later as a homicide detective.

And now, along with two other ex-cops, Leonard Golino is turning his
investigative skills toward people who abuse animals.

Golino, who's opened a private investigation business since retiring
three years ago, has been a volunteer with the new Hudson Valley SPCA
for about six months.

Last week, when the organization got what's called its municipal
number from the state, new enforcement possibilities opened up.
