Hello!
Need little advice or help about APRX cnfiguration.
We have plan to use our old PR VHF node for APRS and now collecting
all information we can find.
Also we found APRX very intersting with all that filter, telemetry,
log options.
Location is very good, 640m asl, and that will cover wide area.
On location is Ra-Fi (our "nick name" for WiFi) network and link
connected to internet.
Main idea is to put iGate RX only but is there, in APRX, any
"filtering" option using "heartbeat-timeout"
when we losing internet link to "switch on" Digipeater and work like
that until internet connection is back?
So, not both at same time, iGate or Digipeater depends on network
"status", work or not.
:)
Hope you understand what I mean.

Hi Darko,

I don't think that is possible with aprx without some tweaks - workaround
could be through two different configuration files, a script pinging a
server somewhere in the internet and if there is no answer, config file is
swapped and aprx restarted.

However, I think it is beneficial to digipeat local traffic within certain
limited distance from the igate/digipeater site anyway. If you allow that,
you have no issue. My thinking here is to improve the local APRS service
especially for small handhelds, like VX-8.

Cheers,

Hi Darko and group,

I've put on the air a "mixed" node: aprs rx igate and regular AX25
digipeater. I could'n find a way to do that with aprx alone.
Searching the web I've found a very flexible digipeater program named
digi_ned. I'm pasting the link to the program's homepage,
there you will find a lot of info and how to combine aprx with
digi_ned to do the task. I don't want to explain here since this
is aprx forum!

Homepage: http://digined.pe1mew.nl/
Howto Igate: http://digined.pe1mew.nl/?How_to:I-gate_usage

For the redundancy I have no experience but i'm thinking in Linux's
routed or gated ....
Hope this will help you.

It's no problem using APRX as an IGATE and a digipeater and it's in
the documentation.

I'm using the "Viscous" digipeater function and this is very effective
and is not digipeating if other digis has already done the job.
Usually you don't want to delay any APRS packets but as an IGATE and a
Viscous digipeater this could be a good idea and sometimes it's better
using it as a regular digipeater.

Not sure why people is having an RX only IGATE but i would say that as
a minimum enable messages. And usually it's not wanted to gate much
traffic from Internet to RF either.

Other places i'm using APRX as both IGATE and a fill-in digipeater
only triggering on WIDE1-1

Hi all,

I've been trying to get aprx working as both igate and ax25 digi but
no luck, It only worked for aprs traffic. Thats why I need to use
digi_ned.
Kai: I don't know if your digi is for aprs traffic only or for
standard ax25 (I want it to digipeat both ui and "connected" packets).
Can you post your digi_ned.conf as an example config? Thanks!!

I don't use digined.

I'm using APRX as a APRS digipeater and a IGATE at the same time.
Not sure what "connected" packets has to do with APRS. For this i'm
not sure that APRX is working as it's for APRS.

Hi group !
Yes, I dont need classic ax25 digipeater, only APRS.
First idea was "quiet" APRS "sniffer" and forward traffic to some
internet server.
Then if our network radio-link lose connection to "switch on" aprs-
digi wide2-1 mode.
But if that is impossible iGate and aprs wide2-1 will do the job.
