When trying to sign up for a new account, I get a message saying the email is invalid (DNS).

Your test seems to be flawed, because the host in question (peter.duonet.net, at which the address used most assuredly exists) has a valid A record. Do you need a MX record as well? I'll try adding one later today, but not everyone has the luxury of controlling their own zonefile.

$ dig peter.duonet.net

Yup, it required an MX record. Now A should be enough.

Most of those who do not have the luxury of controlling their own
zonefiles use email services of mail providers who do have multiple
servers and MX records, so no-one noticed before now.
