Ah. I can understand it easily! It's position information from moving
vehicles transmitted over radio. It fits in here quite naturally, and
especially the folks who do Search-And-Rescue work with boats having
either AIS or APRS transmitters on board can benefit from the combined
view. APRS transmitters are much cheaper than AIS transmitters for the
small rescue vessels of volunteer SAR groups. There are also pleasure
boats with APRS transmitters on board, owned by hams, and it's useful to
see them on the same map with the bigger boats having AIS.
I've had very good feedback from some SAR folks around the world about
this.

But it is possible! Just tune your filters to hide AIS, and then make the
tuned filter list *your* default filter using Preferences => Save current
map view as default view. Here's a short video showing how to tune the

Sorry, but no. A large amount of users would then come asking where all
the AIS ships disappeared suddenly. I also prefer to show everything by
default so that people can learn what data is available - they can then
limit the data set using the filters as they wish.
