At the Googleplex, we've been talking about the useful feedback you've
left here in the group and we're happy to announce today that we are
offering domain administrators the option of obtaining new features in
your Google Apps accounts at the same time as we launch to our
consumer users. You'll find this option in your control panel, and
only in Next Generation, U.S. English settings.
We feel this option strikes a balance between those of you who would
like to immediately release new features to their users, and those who
prefer to wait for our team to ensure that the features are useful and
stable for our consumer users before we roll them out to all Google
Apps users.
PLEASE NOTE: Selecting this option does not mean that your domain's
Google Apps services will match the consumer services feature for
feature, but you will see and use features earlier than Apps domains
that have not selected this option. In addition, the features should
be considered "opt-in features" for Google Apps, and we are
unfortunately unable to offer support for these specific features.
Explicitly, Google Apps Advisors will not reply to any questions in
the group related to "opt-in features," however, you may of course
leverage the knowledge of your fellow admins for assistance.
We're excited to continue responding to your needs and we hope this
release shows our team's commitment to you, our users. Please feel
free to reply to this thread for any thoughts you have related to this
new opt-in feature.

This is a very good response, thanks. What would be cool would be an
update to the 'New features page' on this Group to show what features
are on this option, and what's on the normal apps account and what's
not at all on offer (yet). This would allow expecations to be
correctly set.

Ok, now 48hrs. I've also checked more than 6 domains I enabled at the
same time, none have been updated. There's no point saying much more I
guess though. Seriously though, some of us must be the first people
who even saw and enabled that option. So I am willing to bet, no one
has been updated as yet.

This is great news, But does there look to be an exchange setup or
something similar in the works?
I see we can sync email with imap, calendar with blackberry, but
contacts? if I could sync contacts I would do away with my outlook. I
love thunderbird. it works so well with the imap feature enabled. and
its fast! I still am forced to use outlook because it easy to back up
my contacts on from my treo or blackberry. I would love to just use
the web interface for everything.

Log into the Apps control panel and its under the 'Domain Settings'
section. Make sure you have 'Next Generation...' and the box checked
for 'Turn on new application features...'
