I am having trouble with my Apple Trash on the left side of screen. I
delete things, but nothing is going to trash. It goes somewhere, but
where? How do I get it back? The Yahoo mail trash works just fine,
the the Apple Trash is gone.

Trash Icon is there, but items deleted to trash do not show up there.

Do you mean the Finder trash (which appears on the lower or right side
of the OS X dock) or the trash folder within the OS X Mail.app program?

Many programs have separate "trash cans" and moving things to a
program-specific trash can doesn't affect others. Also, within
Mail.app, each account has its own trash can, which can seem counter-
intuitive.

The trash below mail inbox.  It is there, and I delete things, but can't find where itd goes.  Happened about one week ago.
Meet you somewhere on the Ridge! Don

Within the Mail.app preferences for "Accounts" is a section called
"Mailbox Behavior" where you can set things to automatically delete.
If the box is not checked, then things never go to this trash but are
immediately deleted. If it is set to automatically empty, they are
deleted from trash immediately.

Only trash things that you never want to see again. If you want a "pre-
trash" folder of some type, create one separately. All of the
electrons that were mysteriously placed into the trash folder before
are picked up each night by the Physics Fairy and recycled for new
email messages, in keeping with various magical laws related to the
conservation of matter and energy and observed by all hippies from
Cupertino.

OOOh, I just love the Physics Fairy and the hippies from Cupertino. I
build altars to them regularly and decorate the keyboard & monitor
with garlands of fonts and webdings. Then we all perform the ritual
Mac Prance Pro. Such fun!
I will be back to haunt you all at meetings when my Wed. night class
is over.

I have done that and still nothing in "Trash".  I used to have things there that I could go back and get  things I had forgotten to send.  I can go to "send" and do the same thing, but where are the deleted items going now?
