Glenna, I found this article that might help you with your defrag question:

In the "dark days," I defragged my hard drive on a regular basis as I
was doing a lot more copying on and off of files doing business for
    the public.

Periodically, I ask this, likely more for my peace of mind than
anything else. Do I need to do anything more to organize the space on
my hard drive than the operating system (OS 10.5.8 at this point) does
on its own? This machine is a MacBook and I usually leave it turned
on overnight but do put it in sleep mode.

I just cleaned off nearly 30 gb of podcasts so there is a huge amount
of "empty spots" right now. Does the operating system do everything
automatically or do I need to do something?

What is EyeTV? I'm interested because I want to replace my TV and just have a large computer screen. My idea is to have all of  my movies on a Mac mini, or download movies to play on the computer. Then I can also get TV shows on-line. I don't know how to do all of this or if it's even possible.

Thanks,
Carole

    Anyone using EyeTV?

I purchased it a couple years ago but needed to purchase a card for my
computer which may or may not allow me to use it. Fortunately, I was
able to sell it for the PMUG discount price I paid for it.

Now that I have a computer that should be able to run it, I am
considering buying it again. Have you used it, are you using it, what
    do you think of it?

I want it to record programs so I can make QT movies of some that I
might want for later. I did this when I was taking telecourses at
Clark so I could stop, rewind, etc., with ease to go to specific
parts. What I had to do was record it to the VCR then transfer it to
my digital video camera but could also hook the camera to the VCR and
record directly. The next step was then transferring it to the
computer. The disadvantage is you have to be there to do it and it
puts wear and tear on your camera, two hours minimum for every hour
you record.

With this, you can record directly to your hard drive and are limited
only by the size of your hard drive.

Hopefully, the website is helpful. From what you said, this would work
for you. Check the computer requirements, however, I neglected to do
that before. If I had kept the program, I could now use it but had no
plans to upgrade then so it was silly to keep it when someone else
could be using it.
