Subject: Problems with apple ///

Hi all,

I recently got an old apple /// from a friend.
When first powered it up for the first time, magic smoke came out of the
power supply. Before I start to fix the PS, I wanted to be sure that the
rest of the machine was functioning, so I hooked it up to an ATX power
supply.
unfortunately, I see gibberish on the screen. But when I go in to the
command prompt, I can recognize the flickering "^" all over the screen. I
already tried to use an other monitor, but I get the same thing.

There are some pics of the computer & screen op

Anyone who's got an idea / solution / comment?

Thnks!
Piet

Have you tried re-seating all socketed chips?  I saw something very
similar on a TRS-80 Model III.  Simply re-seating the chips and cables
fixed me.  Of course, the power supply letting it's magic smoke out
could mean that you have damaged components.

Pick it up and drop it from 3 inches above the table. Seriously thats what
mine took to get started even after poking all the chips to reseat them!
