Okay.... maybe people aren't really in this group... I dunno. So a
question: What are your favorite pieces of gear for the AT? You can
have as many as you want, but I was thinking things that make you go
"Holy crap, best thing I've every purchased, I swear." :)

Anyone hitting the trail this year?? I'm a section hiker so this year
I'll be doing Harper's Ferry through MD and up into Southern PA a
bit. :)

It's mostly hiking thru the woods. On the AT, there is a great scenic
area north of Damascus, VA called the Grayson Highlands, and then you
can take the Iran Mountain trail back to Damascus.
Not on the AT, there is a 100 mile trail around Mount Rainier in
Washington. Very Scenic.

I have looked a little into that section right now and it looks like it
would be a good trail distance for me. Is it very scenic?
Also, any other favorite places you might recommend, even if not on the AT?

You could take a bus out of Port Authority Bus Terminal to Kent, CT
and hike south to Bear Mtn., NY and catch a bus from Bear Mtn. Lodge
back to Port Authority. Relatively easy hiking, even with a bum knee.

In a week or 10 days, I would like to go hiking/camping on the AT (or
another place if you want to recommend a good one) for a couple of
weeks. I have lived in Mexico for the past 13 yrs and am moving to
Toronto now but have a couple of weeks to enjoy myself doing whatever.

I' a little confused. I thought this was a group of people interested
in the AT. Upon my 1st visit, I see 2 messages about the AT, & 14
about microsoft. What's this all about?

Then a great hike, with easy road access would be to hike from Delaware
Water Gap to Rt. 206. It is about 30 miles, and would be a great 4 day hike
for kids. Just remember to Bear bag at night!
