Hi... In a week or 10 days, I would like to go hiking/camping on the AT (or another place if you want to recommend a good one) for a couple of weeks. I have lived in Mexico for the past 13 yrs and am moving to Toronto now but have a couple of weeks to enjoy myself doing whatever.
I was wondering if someone could recommend me a beautiful, peaceful part of the AT or another area. I have been having a little knee trouble lately so I wouldn't want anything too difficult. Really I will be camping mostly, alone, and would appreciate any ideas. I will be coming from the NYC but could travel elsewhere.
You could take a bus out of Port Authority Bus Terminal to Kent, CT and hike south to Bear Mtn., NY and catch a bus from Bear Mtn. Lodge back to Port Authority. Relatively easy hiking, even with a bum knee.

It's mostly hiking thru the woods. On the AT, there is a great scenic area north of Damascus, VA called the Grayson Highlands, and then you can take the Iran Mountain trail back to Damascus.
Not on the AT, there is a 100 mile trail around Mount Rainier in Washington. Very Scenic.
