Save the Date: July 30th & 31st, 2013
API Craft Annual Conference v1

We’ve had inspiring discussions online. We’ve met at regional meetups. We’ve gathered at other people’s conferences. Is it time the global API Craft community gets together for our own
party conference? Absolutely!

We are still working out the details, but here’s the plan so far:
  • Date: Tuesday July 30th & Wednesday 31st, 2013
  • Place: To Be Determined
  • Who: API Craftsmen and Craftswomen
  • Spots: 150-200
  • Format: Open Space http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Open-space_technology
  • Rules: No Corporate Logos, No Pitches, Represent Thyself Not Thycompany
  • Cost: ~$300 (we're aiming to break even: total expenses / number of attendees)
  • Pre-Party: Yes
  • Intra-Party: Yes
  • Post-Party: Yes

We will open registration in the coming weeks. Please stay tuned.

♫ Let’s get together

Yes please. :)

Any idea what part of the country or is completely TBD at this point?

This sounds like it would be fantastic. I've never heard of an open space approach, sounds interesting.

Hmm wonder if putting cities on the map http://meetinbetween.us/ would help at all.

This is a great idea!  In keeping with the anti-marketing feel, the location should be un-conferency (i.e. NOT Vegas or Orlando).  A character town.  Some suggestions...

Pittsburgh, PA (close to scenic Johnstown)
Wichita, Kansas (good rates at the Braidwood Inn)
Windsor, Ontario (needed a Canadian option)

:-)

Thanks, m@

We're arranging a bunch of API-related events in Scandinavia: nordicapis.com. We'd be interested in syncing w/ an API Craft Conference if others want to do it in the North.

Howdy folks!

This event will be held in downtown Detroit, MI.  Plenty of hotel options.  Good walkability.  And the weather should be beautiful.

We're looking to use the same venue as the API Craft Detroit Meetup (right across from Comerica Park), but we need to get all the details ironed out.

We'll keep you updated as we make progress!

Thanks,

for our Canadian friends, feel free to stay in downtown Windsor :~)

the Windsor-Detroit tunnel bus is $4 and drops you off a few blocks from where the conference will be held:

Hmm... Detroit might be harder than anything in Europe. I might be able to take a vacation but flights and all are expensive :(

Sounds like we will need to do a Europe conference as well.  Distance, time, cost, and visas can be barriers for many in getting to the US.

What would be a good location in Europe from a cost and visa perspective?

Well, I'd guess Berlin, Munich, London or Paris?
Or we could consider the NordicAPIs conference :-)

For what it’s worth, including a Saturday night in your trip makes long-haul flights much cheaper, though I’m not sure how much that helps, given this is on a Tuesday and Wednesday…

Hi,

I'm the organizer of APIdays conference in Paris last December. 45 speakers, 1500min keynote feedbacks from the field oriented, non vendors sessions, and forecasts on APIs,  separated in 2 tracks on 2 days (1 business track, 1 technical track). This event was open to everybody whatever the company and every website and marketing material is accessible on github if you want to re-use ithttps://github.com/faberNovel/apidays.io with a CC licence.

We will make an other annual APIdays conference in November in Paris.

We received demands for regional APIdays conferences that we will co-organize, we choose to take a few (Spain end of May, SF end of June at Parisoma -Fabernovel our partner owns Parisoma with ~150 persons capacity per day)

We  are also in contact with :

-  UK trade investment which asked us to make one in London but we have today not found a local company companies which will take the lead on it  (I know that a lot of companies are based in London if one is interested reach us con...@apidays.io)
- Pat cappelaere for making one in Washington unitll the end of the year.

 I propose 2 options :

- I comeback to  the UK trade investment about it if companies are intersted to make one in London and make introductions
- Synchronize with the event we make at SF Parisoma (we will have to delay it a little to make it mid or end of July but no more than 150 persons)
- Synchronize the API craft European Conference with the APIdays annual conference to make a really big event in Europe in one time, in Paris.

Please let me know

I like the idea of Paris in early December. It would nicely stagger an API Craft Conference across the calendar.

Mehdi, I'm in Barcelona until Sunday morning. If you'd like to sketch a high level proposal together for the group's consideration - while we're in the same time zone - please send me an email.

ps. For history enthusiasts among us, Louis XIV granted Détroit to Chevalier Antoine Cadillac at the Palace of Versailles in 1699.

it's a 2.5 mile ride. 5 Tim Hortons. 3 in Windsor, 2 in Detroit.

Also, to sweeten the deal for Saturday travel:

Maker Faire Detroit http://www.makerfairedetroit.com is the weekend before API Craft conference at the Henry Ford museum.

Tim O'Reilly called The Henry Ford, "The Louvre of the Industrial Age" http://radar.oreilly.com/2010/07/louvre-industrial-age-henry-ford.html

Tim: "Visiting The Henry Ford, as they call it, is a truly humbling experience. I would never in a hundred years have thought of making a visit to Detroit just to visit this museum, but knowing what I know now, I will tell you confidently that it is as worth your while as a visit to Paris just to see the Louvre, to Rome for the Vatican Museum, to Florence for the Uffizi Gallery, to St. Petersburg for the Hermitage, or to Berlin for the Pergamon Museum. This is truly one of the world’s great museums, and the world that it chronicles is our own."
