11870.com's API

Introduction

The API provides means to access 11870.com data and functionality. If you don't know what 11870.com is, you should start taking a look at it now. The API may be used for two different things: exploring or searching and managing a user's agenda. Or, when needed, for both. Design objectives were to allow the creation of a 11870.com clone, offering the same functionality as in the original site. Exposed through the API are the user's saved services, her contacts and her profile.

The API is using the following technologies:

Using existing technology was a design principle. Please take a look at the links above to better understand this documentation, as only the integration done will be described here (hey, that was on purpose, just imagine we reinvented everything).

API Keys and Authentication

You will always need an API Key to perform any operation against the API. It is needed to identify the applications using the service.

If all you want is to use the explore/search functionality, you will only need that. If you plan to modify user data (contacts, saved places or profile) your application will have to request user authorization through the 11870.com website.

The Authentication page has more info on the subject.

The place/service management API

This part of the API lets manage a user's own places or services. Please see the Place Management API page

The search API

The search API allows a third party application to query for places/services for which 11870 has information. Complex queries can be easily built in order to obtain accurate results. The range of filters available goes from just a text query to a combination of location inforrmation, tags and text query.

To read the technical details, please take a look at the Search API page.

i18n

11870 API queries can be internationalized. At the moment, the only data subject to be translated to another language is the area names (London/Londres, Viena/Wien/Vienna). By setting the 'Accept-Languages' header you can change de default behaviour, which is to return area names in English.

Code libraries

11870 has been developing some client libraries to ease the API usage. Please take a look at the api-11870 google code project

If you develop a new library or even some nice application using the API, don't hesitate contacting us.
