I'm the lazy, stressed leader of a group of 2 other high school
seniors (who are even lazier) and we have less than 7 schooldays to
complete and document a boat simulator done in flash. We're using a
top-down display and have various obstacles for the "sailor" to avoid.
A big problem we have is making the boat's movements look realistic.

I have two questions:

Would it be too late to consider using APE in our project?

If you think we could, how would we go about using it? I don't see any
evidence of fluid resistance or anything... Maybe such a resistance
could be replaced with an "air resistance" feature I don't know of...?

Oh, and I might also mention that we only have Actionscript 2 at our
disposal, so APE's compatibility is definitely an issue.

You could use dampening for air or water resistance.
it basically makes all the particle's movements more dampened?

Maybe APE wouldn't be practical... We're talking about boats, not
exactly particles, I think. We could seriously use some non-newb help.

You can add many simple things to get the type of movement you want.
For instance, in my tank demo, the tanks were flying around like
styrofoam cups - so I added checks to make sure their velocity never
goes beyond a certain limit - and also added code to give the feeling
of inertia.

Play it at http://fireleg.com/actionscript3/TankAPE1.1.swf or dig
around in the source code at fireleg.com

Hope this helps.

I've already gotten the grade for this project. I won't likely work on
it again for at least a month. Any further help would still be
appreciated.
