Hi all,

Im constantly switchin between the physics engines every few weeks out of just trying to get some basic games done.

I noticed Fisix engine has not been updated as far as im aware since over a year ago. Motor 2 was released but i never found any documentation on it and i dont see anyone talking of it. Ape has not moved from 0.45 since atleast the end of quarter 3 2007?  Box2d seems to be the only place that still seems alive in terms of development.

Im not slating any of them, it would take me a lifetime to develop something has as complex but id just like some opinions on whats happening? Is APE pretty much looking to remain version 0.45 for the forseeable future?

Im relectant to use the repository as i dont really understand it.

Thanks :D

Learn to use SVN :) It's an industry standard, and every open source
project I have experience with uses it. If you're on a PC, use this
GUI: http://tortoisesvn.tigris.org/

APE 0.5 is the version on Google Code, and it has collision event
dispatching. It's a vast improvement over 0.45.

As for Motor... I haven't tried it. APE seems more user-friendly
somehow, but maybe that's not fair. I'm keeping a watchful eye on
Motor. I think everyone is waiting for someone else to do something
awesome with it.

So, to solve your immediate problem, get yourself APE 0.5 off of the
repos and begin building those awesome games.

As for the future of APE, I haven't been following the list. I have a
good feeling about its future... Alec did a great job, and if he's too
preoccupied to continue, I'm sure others will pick up the ball and run
with it.

Hey Rendall,

I hope someone will pick up the ball :P

I did attempt to use the SVN version lastnight using tortoise but its undocumented, things like APEngine.addMasslessForce() are gone and it seems like a lot of guess work plus im unsure how complete the SVN is, i dont want to spend a day on a project to realise what i actually want to do is not yet implemented and on a TODO list that no one is working on any more.

I have attemped to email alec just to ask if he could provide feedback on the state of the project... ie is it dead for the forseeable future? Has he abandoned it due to other commitments etc but not had any luck.

I think on this occasion im going to part from APE and put the time in to understand box2d instead.

I wish everyone every success :D

Clark.
