Glenn Branch of NCSE speaking in Davis, May 23, Saturday 
  Glenn Branch, deputy director of the National Center for Science Education, will speak to the Science Policy Journal Club at the University of California, Davis, at 7:00 p.m. on May 23, in 2205 Haring Hall, on the UC Davis campus. Talk title: "After Kitzmiller -- What?" Kitzmiller refers to Kitzmiller v. Dover, the 2005 case that established the unconstitutionality of teaching Intelligent Design (ID) style creationism in the public schools. It was a pivotal event in the history of the creationism/evolution controversy in the United States. Why was Kitzmiller the effective end of the second phase of anti-evolution strategy? And what is the third phase going to be like? NCSE's deputy director Glenn Branch will discusses these questions and more with the University of California, Davis, Science Policy Journal Club.... more »

  Event date: Friday, May 18 2012, 7:00pm - 10:00pmSean Faircloth: Attack of the Theocrats A joint meeting of AOF, Sacramento Freethinkers, Atheists and Nonbelievers, the Humanist Association of the Greater Sacramento Area and Americans United Sacramento.Admission: Free (Voluntary Donations accepted at door) Sean Faircloth, Director of Strategy and Policy for the Richard Dawkins Foundation for Science and Reason, is a skilled speaker, an accomplished legislator, a strategic thinker, and the author of the new book: Attack of the Theocrats: How the Religious Right Harms Us All and What to Do About It. Sean served five terms in the Maine Legislature, served on the Judiciary and Appropriations Committee, and was a state Assistant Attorney General. In his last term his colleagues elected him Majority Whip. During public service he had numerous successes in children’s issues and justice system reform. He spearheaded the "Deadbeat Dad" child support law, which saved Maine taxpayers hundreds of millions of dollars and was later incorporated into federal law. He chaired a Commission on sex crime law reform which led to substantive improvement in that area of law. And he had the idea for the Maine Discovery Museum, leading the four-year project from concept to completion in 2001. At that time, of the twenty-five children’s museums in New England, the Maine Discovery Museum was the second largest. Sean Faircloth also served two years as Executive Director of Secular Coalition for America. For the Coalition, he conceived and led the Secular Decade plan, a vision for resecularizing American government. He has spoken around the United States on separation of church and state, the Constitution, children’s policy, obesity policy, and sex crime law, earning a reputation for innovative ideas and energizing presentations.
