airphoto rectification

I was asked to rectify an aerial photo from WWI of an area in what is now
the West Bank. I usually use properly surveyed points to do my rectification
(walls, skeletons, etc.), but in this case only have access to a few DEMs
and maybe some vague sources like googlemaps, and was wondering if anyone
has done anything like this, how good the results have been, and what I
should look out or plan for...
