Interesting that Kvamme will be there; on the other hand, there was a
session at the EAA last week about prospects for students of archaeology,
which was fairly pessimistic; one of the problems is that, as Kenneth
Atchinson's big European survey showed, although Germany has a population of
about 80 million and the UK about 60 million, Germany only seems to have a
little over 1000 archaeologists, and the UK over 6000. So it doesn't matter
if you train in GIS (big mistake on my part) or remote sensing, there's no
work out there anyway... and the situation only seems to be getting worse,
with ever more work being done by untrained labourers or various types of
temporary work ("McJobs"), with no possibility of even discussing things
like reflexive methods, let alone trying to put them into practice...
