The Archaeological Institute at the Georg-August-University Göttingen
invites appli-
cations for a junior professorship (salary level W1) in Classical
Archaeology and its
Digital Methodology, starting from 1 April 2012. The appointment will
be as a civil
servant and be limited to three years. There is an extension option of
another three
years depending on a positive evaluation.
We expect the successful candidate to have a PhD in Classical
Archaeology with a
proven research focus on Mediterranean Archaeology and the application
of digital
technologies in this field. He/she is supposed to cooperate with the
Göttingen Acad-
emy of Sciences and Humanities and the Herzog-August-Library in
Wolfenbüttel in
the framework of the project “Digital Humanities”. Experience in
programming specia-
lized applications, teaching experience as well as publications in
Mediterranean and
digital archaeology and experience in interdisciplinary cooperation
are desirable.

The formal requirements for an appointment as Junior Professor are
governed by
§30 NHG (Lower Saxony Higher Education Act).
If a candidate was employed as a research assistant or student
assistant before or
after the completion of the PhD degree, the overall time needed to
complete the de-
gree and the time of employment should not have exceeded six years.
The University
