Hello Evangelia.

Sorry, the lists of users there are times that functional of incorrect form.  I answer you to what I am able.

Hello gvSIG team!

I have been trying out the gvSIG 1.0 applications which relate to the GIS tasks of the Geomatics Department I work for, and first of all I would like to express our enthusiasm in the range of applications covered and the immediate help and support available by your team.

I would also like to point out a few limitations I came across with regards to the kind of work and results we produce here, and ask you if you would consider these in future versions of gvSIG, and how soon you think the tools could be available.

  1. Spatial Reference Systems and Projections: We would like to see national grids to be included, i.e. British (although, personally, I am Greek with quite some greek research to do, so I would also like to see the EGSA '87 there too!).

The new version 1.0.2. is near to appear (a few days), this version has one extension of projection with more types of projection than now.

  1. More advanced and GIS-oriented editing tools : Topology validation rules, integration tools, Auto-complete/Cut polygon/Merge features/etc.etc. functions, Move vertex, etc.etc., and other similar functionalities that give the GIS specialist more control over the digitising tasks and provide for more accurate tracing of features. By the way, I found the polygon command to draw regular polygons rather limiting given that lansdcape features are hardly ever of regular polygon shape..?

Topology validation rules are a new requisit, but will delay some months.

The polyline tool permits you to do polylines as want and do not regulate too.

More advanced tools for the production of paper maps:

a) could the grid box become an active grid showing the reference system used to project the data?

The version 1.1 available in a few months can to apply the grid at all frames.

b) Could text boxes be more flexible with rotating/resizing etc?

We will introduce more functionalities, but right now is possible to rotate and size the text boxes.

c) Could the legend box get some background colour option, also some frame with a set line width/colour, and some control over the fonts used for the legend items?

What you can do right now is to introduce a rectangle under the legend and to put him color of backfill to do that.

d) Could the main view get some frame with a set line width/colour too?

Of equal form that in the previous case you can show a rectangle bordering or with backfill.

e)Could the scale bar get rid of that very left division before 0, have some control over its own size and also the size of the label fonts, as well as the language used for the units, i.e. metres#metros etc.

In the next version (1.0.2.) will show the units, in the language selected and we will rid left division before 0.

f) any other similar tools to make things look prettier, this is quite important when it comes to maps for reports which need to go through our Quality Assurance Standards.

It is possible to improve somewhat the maps within gvSIG with some time-consulting manual work. However, we certainly want to improve gvSIG's capabilities for map production, so if you detect deficiencies or possible improvements in this area, please mention it to us.

  1. Advanced Spatial and 3-D Analysis tools and Extensions: any at all in the near future or would you suggest to move data to some other GIS analysis package, such as GRASS?

Two development projects are already under way, one to develop raster (spatial) analysis functionality, which will include all SEXTANTE and more functions for image, thematic and surface analysis. This analysis functions will be first released along this year. In the future, some mechanism to integrate GRASS is also planned.

The second development project involves a 3D and Time/Animation extension for gvSIG. An initial prototype is alreadey functional and will be released later this year. We are working with partners to connect the 3D view with analysis functionality like visibility, signal tansmission and pollution propagation simulation.

Many thanks and looking forward to hearing from you!
