This is a reminder that a new leap second will be introduced on June
30, 2012 at 23:59:59.
All your databases and qlib2 library should be updated by then.
More information about the procedure is available at;

http://vault.gps.caltech.edu/trac/cisn/wiki/DBmaintenance#UpdatingLeapSecondsTable

AQMS Users,

I have added some information to the AQMS wiki about the leapseconds
file. Be sure that you install the new leabseconds file AND restart all your
AQMS processes before the next leap second on 30 June 2012.

Thanks Pete,
I had no idea we had a leapseconds file in /usr/local/bin...

Renate,

Its actually in /usr/local/lib/leapseconds (not bin)

Since STP uses qlib2, will we need to recompile the executable after
the leap second goes by or will it get picked up automatically?

No, you probably will only need to restart the stp server. The qlib2 uses
the leapseconds file to do its work so it probably just reads that at startup.

If it is using qlib2 dynamically, then you need to restart nothing. Someone
from Caltech that knows the stp server code better than I could comment
on that better.

Cheers,

Paul

    From the AQMS wiki:

You can browse the current file through this link:  http://vault.gps.caltech.edu/trac/cisn/browser/DB/trunk/storedprocedures/Init_Leap_Secs.sql

The AQMS software also relies on the qlib2 library, which uses a leap seconds file. This file is accessible at:  http://www.ncedc.org/ftp/pub/quanterra/ucb/leapseconds

Normally the leapsecond file is installed at /usr/local/lib/leapseconds. If another location is used, the LEAPSECONDS environment variable must be set to the full path for the leapseconds file. All software that uses the leapsecond file must be restarted after the file is updated. This is because the qlib2 library reads the leapsecond file only at startup; otherwise performance would be impacted.

Bill,

I just ran the script on our test systems here and I am unable to duplicate these errors.

Some of the output you have is also very strange.   I don't know how the script output can product the lines:

Display all 342 possibilities? (y or n)
adm_rlmgr_privileges            dba_sdo_maps                    sdo_coord_axes                  user_rlmgr_comprcls_properties
alarm_action                    dba_sdo_styles                  sdo_coord_axis_names            user_rlmgr_event_structs

Stephane might have better insight as the author.

From the wiki's documentation of 'all software that uses the leapsecond file must be restarted after the file is updated', what does that actually entail in the AQMS system?

For the database, does anything need to be restarted after Init_Leap_Secs.sql is run?
For data import, I believe comserv and qmaserv have to be restarted, so will a netmon -r be sufficient?
Do earthworm q3302ew processes require a restart (and the EW library leapseconds file modified)?
Anything else I'm missing in the AQMS processing chain?

For the database, nothing needs to be restarted after Init_Leap_Secs.sql is run.
All the applications calling the TrueTime package will become aware of the new
leap second.

All the AQMS programs that use the leapseconds file need to be restarted.

For codes running under netmon, that means "netmon -t" to terminate
everything; wait untill all qmaserv, comserver, mserv, etc. processes
terminiate. Then kill the running netmon and and start everything again with
"netmon -s".

Continuously running AQMS programs that read the leapseconds file and need to
be restarted: (Not all of these will be used in any given AQMS installation.)

Mitch,

"conlog" is a program that handles stdout and stderr from other
programs. It would not make sense to run conlog by itself. Instead, it is
started at the same time as the program whose logs it is handling.

If you run "/bin/ps -ef | grep conlog", you should see the name of the log
file that each instance of conlog is maintaining. Hopefully these names will
be sufficiently meaningful that you can figure out what program conlog
isworking with. From that, you should be able to find the correct script to
stop and restart.

Note that conlog may be logging output from some non-AQMS program that doesn't
care about leapseconds. If you want conlog to apply the correct timestamps to
its log entries, you will need to restart these programs before the next leap
second.

If you are still in doubt about what needs to be restarted, a quick system
reboot should take care of everything.

Pete
