If you haven't seen this video, watch it now. I mean like RIGHT NOW.

THIS is what Android should have been all along. I'll be happy if
this comes to T-Mobile. If it goes to Sprint or ATT or where ever, I
will be moving to that carrier...without even flinching.

Here is a spec comparison for the G1 and the Hero. Similar processor,
but more RAM. Is this enough for a feature rich UI?

WOW! Very cool. Why do other countries get all of the fun toys first?

The spreadsheet link you sent unfortunately doesn't give me permission to view. I'm hoping new phones have more RAM and better processor. My G1 (and g2) could really use more RAM and faster processor. Lagging many times.

It's really all about the RAM. Hero's version of Android has some
additional performance enhancements. Pop on over to xda-developers and
pick up Cyanogen's ROM if you happen to be rooted (http://forum.xda-
developers.com/showthread.php?t=518851). I've noticed a huge increase
in speed due to optimized odex files and updates to the Dalvik VM, and
it spreads across third party applications as well.

That site also has a version of Hero/Sense ported to the G1, but it
requires a swap partition to be set up on your SD card, which reduces
SD life, and isn't all that speedy. Nice to play with, though. ;) I
love the new HTC mail app the most, it fixes the things I loathe about
the default client and K-9.

Java seems to be Android's shortcoming, but at least there are people
hard at work on improving that experience significantly.

By the way, hi everyone, I'm new to the list. :)
