Hello all,

I tried running the android screencast with android x86 running in
vmplayer.
The connection b/w vmplayer and host machine is through a bridged
ethernet connection.
After connecting the device to a terminal using adb when i ran the
java script provided in the screencast application. I am able to see
the screen but I am not able to control my android x86 from the
screencast.

On the screencast forums it says that yor device should be rooted in
order to facilitate control.
I have tried doinf su but it doenot help.

Can anyone guide me on how to root my android-x86 device as a normal
device is rooted.

Hello,

More details on screencast can be found here http://code.google.com/p/androidscreencast/
Basically, Screencast is a app running in android and a java script running on host PC. This basically cast the screen of phone on your host PC.
Claims are that you can control phone via desktop but I have not been able to achieve this, (rooting required or something)

I ran it from android x86 running on vmplayer & host PC. It is similar to vnc but a lot more simpler.

Hello all,

Just an update, I am able to use screen cast on my development board
using a application superuser from xda developers using USB.
but there seems to be some issue on using androidx86 with screencast.
I think the difference comes in the adb connetction ... deelopment
board is using usb connection and android-x86 running on vmplayer uses
ethernet.

Could we possibly connect our android-x86 running in VM Player to
connect to PC through virtual USB or something like that ?

Have you tried to use adb with android-x86 via ethernet?
Does it work?
adb connect ip:5555
adb install xxx.apk
...
