May be something related with bugs in the Mesa part of Froyo-x86
FRG83G build Id ??? ^^

Not working with other machines than Intel Netbooks only !!! :(

The nightly build server was contributed by a volunteer.
The android-x86 developers has no direct connection to him.
We even can't access his server.
Unless the volunteer fixes it himself, we can't help.

Oops, nothing to do with the mesa stuff.

Don't claim that.

Sorry Chih Wei, but I made tests with your own build on 3 differents
laptops and it was not working.

Only works with 2 netbooks. So it's just an observation and
experimentation in the real world...

??? obviously I misunderstood the "build process" then...as I read it
the .iso/.img is automatically placed in out/target/product/xxxxx/
xxxxx.iso(or xxxxx.img)
when doing a make...

so what is preventing a usage also that would include something like
out/target/product/nightly/xxxxx/xxxxx.iso(or xxxxx.img)

other than storage space...which I could understand...

BUT "Someone to spend time to build all the targets and upload to the
server"
I don't understand WHY???

Won't we need someone to update the tree, do the build ? Of cause you
can make a script to do this and you are welcome to do so. BTW-- we
don't have a dedicated download server for us to save all the nightly
build images.

Well as I recall there were only 5 selections in the nightly build...

eeepc,generic,latitude,sparta,viewpad 10

which I summarized meant there were at least 1-x people for each of
those selections who had set up a build environment
to work with changes/fixes/etc., therefore the "Someone to spend time
to build all the targets" is not really valid is
it....

People who want to test the Android-x86 software on their PC/Tablets/
etc. are not usually up to setting up the build
environment for that purpose nor should they be...they simply want to
test and provide feedback to the developers...
which helps both....

I have a HP TC1100 and a Viewpad 10 which I had been doing testing
on, well since losing the ability to get updates
with fixes from the nightly server I'm dead in the water..fortunately
I located an Android 2.2 source for the Viewpad 10
that is working fine...am doing some testing for the wacom-input
stuff on the TC1100 provided here by a contributor in these
forums which I'll continue with...

The possible addition I spoke about could be implemented as an option
to anyone doing builds, they could use it to provide
an iso/img for people to test with and get feedback, or not if they
decided they wanted to provide their own testing...

You have all done a great job and provided a great service, exceeded
your goal of "providing Android x86 for eeepc" and included
many devices/pc/tablets/etc. that were never envisioned...

Well, do you know how long it takes to compile and build a clean
Android iso_img file ???

Wouldn't be easier to have a specific build server with cron jobs set for each night, what would build all the targets? Such a server isn't so expensive (we need mostly computing power and not bandwidth!), and of course a buildbot, but that's all, then we can have it sync and do the builds !

I can possibly host it. I would have to throttle downloads though....
I would also need specifics on the server configuration.
I will create the vm tomorrow, just let me know what OS Flavor works for you

Ubuntu would be the best choice, as all tools and how-tos are linked to Ubuntu. So, you need that, then, the repo tool, atleast 15-20GB free space for the source code and building process (preferably not a VM!), a lot of computing power, and such. Then you need to set up cron jobs what do these:
1. repo sync in source root
2. Append new build title to all device (so all devices get the new nightly tag with date etc)
3. general lunch build setup (source build/envsetup.sh; lunch [to list available targets])
[4]. Build target X (make -j[number_of_cores] [Target_x] iso_img usb_img)
[5]. After built, copy the final img's to the html host's device folder
6. Do a make clean to clean up the build zone

For 4 and 5, you need to do it redundantly, for each device.

It would be a vm in my hyper-v cluster. I have over 60 cores and 250 gb ram available on it right now.

I could mirror the downloads, although I would prefer more to host torrent seeds. I have two vserver, one in Europe and one in the US, with reasonable speed and some bandwidth to spare.

Get in touch with me if you're interested.

is still around, but since we had a better nightly build server, I was not really keeping up with the daily updates.  If there is someone willing to make the builds, I can host them... there is no rate limiting, this is part of a cluster and my node has 85 days of uptime.

Marty is on a university pipe, linked by 100mbit i'm sure with probably not yet 10gbit backplane (they were talking about it when I graduated though)

Only 5GB of disk though, so maybe room for 1-3 days of each target, if you have the CPU to donate then we can do it.  I will watch this thread or you can contact me!

Ideally we have some way for folks to sign off that a build works, too.. either the person uploading, if possible, or users that download the builds, I am thinking of something not much more complicated than a digg-style Thumbs-Up/Thumbs-Down interface.

It would be neat to get some statistics about how many people are actually downloading and using the builds...

maybe also gather info about what kind of hardware they are actually using if they will take the time to volunteer it.

I am going to finish the update server this week.

This would work perfectly, I cant have too much traffic during the day. But I can push the compiled updates to another host each night.

I am super swamped this week(Moving some offices and I have a VoIP deployment kicking off). So I have blocked off time this weekend to finish it.

Great news... the old archive of builds is back!

Still, I am acting on some of the ideas we had when it was down.  There will be a new server to post nightlies or whatever frequency you want, I am planning features like user-driven promotion to mirror and dropbox support, as well as comments and error reporting.

I can't match Moonman's massive 97GB archive of old builds, but I think I can provide a few days worth of builds with a slightly more interesting interface for leechers and contributors.  I am thinking of something halfway between bugzilla and reddit.

Bonus points for anyone with other creative ideas on how to use the 5GB that I'll contribute.

More to come this weekend...

I have been working on my build mirror index
and...

It's about ready!  I have to still make it pretty and add all of the bug reporting/voting support that I promised, plus the ability to have subdirs, but... the core functionality is there, along with an intro document to tell how it works...

As soon as Dropbox gives me the OK to put it into production status, you all can make public archives of your builds in one place!  I think this will help?

Anyone throw in $0.02 if you think you will use this, I will take your comments and ring you back when it's ready for you to join my cloud, otherwise I will button it up and make another announcement when it's ready for general population to try.

Thanks!
Kingdon
