Hi sky_walker, I am also trying to install a certificate for using
TLS, and there is an option to import certificates in the Advanced
menu of the Wifi confoguration. But although I have put a cert file in
the SD card, the import tool cannot find it. I am trying to find out
if it has to be put inside a specific directory or use a given
name....

I went to Settings, Wireless controls, Wi-Fi settings, Advanced,

I try to put the .cer file on the SD card but the list is still empty.

No, I couldn't find any answer nor get Google representative word
about this problem.
It looks like Android is not completely ready for the enterprise :
Exchange support is added by device manufacturers but we can't connect
to the enterprise network.
The French ISP leader, Orange, is pushing EAP for consumers, so it
might not be an enterprise only problem.

I'm in the same boat please someone help! I desperately need to get on
a WPA2-Enterprise network at my work with my new HTC HERO and have
downloaded the certificate to the phone but can't find where/how to
install the certificate as the Certificate list is always blank when
trying to setup the network connection.

I'm having the same problem, and it is very frustrating. Donut
appears to support WPA2 Enterprise, but nobody knows how to import or
select certificates. I talked to smartphone support at TMobile and
they were clueless.

I put a .cert on the sdcard. Tried to open it with the browser ("file://sdcard/mycert.cert") but the browser display the file content. It doesn't work for me on an HTC Hero with Donut.

My g1 donut says file not found, when I typed "file://sdcard/
<certificatename>.cer" Maybe this works only on rooted phones? I also
tried to open the .cer file from my university website (3G connection)
still no luck - file cannot be downloaded, because it is not supported
by the phone...:/ I think a quick miniupdate to "sugar coated donut
1.6.1" should do - the sugar we need is the ability to add
certificates. Did google said anything about this problem, any
official info?

has anyone managed to import a certificate yet? I assume since there
is an option to pick a cert from the settings, it must be possible to
import one. However, I have not seen any post describing this working?
Anyone?

I'm testing an Android 2.0 device (verizon's Droid) and importing
Certs is STILL not working well.... I need to import an Entrust cert
so that I can connect to my company's WiFi. However it seems that
Android will only let you import Cert files of the .p12 extension...
which is NOT what my WiFi's cert is. I can't get windows to export
the Cert in that file format, only .cer or .p7b neither of which
Android will recognize and import...
Are we dead in the water for enterprise wifi even on Android
2.0!?!?! help!

thanx to my friend, denver, who suggested this workaround:
1. on your android device enable Credential Storage (settings >>
security & location >> use secure credentials)
2. export your certificate from a windows machine, Base-64 encoded X.
509 (.cer)
start >> run >> certmgr.msc
5. copy the exported certificate content, from step 2, inside
certificate.php -- pay attention to BEGIN -- END
6. from your android phone, remotely access via the web browser your
server:
http://your_xampp_server/certificate.php
7. the import window should appear, type any name you desire
8. the credential storage password should popup, type the password set
on step 1.
9. now go to wifi settings, your certificate should appear in the CA
cert dropdownbox

I sent certs to my phone via email, but you can transfer via usb too.
For email, I had to rename the file as a .jpg or android (2.0) would
not let me save the attachment. Then I renamed back to .p12 with
Astro file manager.
In 2.0, import cert via settings/Locations and Security/Install from
SD card.

Nothing of that worked on my Hero.
It does not matter the name I give to the cert file, the import list
remains blank when trying to add a new cert. And the workaround
suggested by Denver did not work either: The browser just unload the
cert file, without installing it.
Probably we should put the cert file inside a given directory?
