adding application in andrdoid source code

Hi
i am trying to add my application in android source code , for that i
put source and res file in the \packages\apps folder .
and added my project name 'setserver /' in the - product \vendor\aosp
\products\aosp_core.mk file .
while doing make i can see that my project is getting built but when i
run emulator from build source code i cant see my application
in the emulator.
am i missing something ? are there any steps for modifiying source
code defined somewhere ?
any pointers will be really helpful
