We have recently turned on moderation control for the android-platform
mailing list. The goal is only to reduce the amount of spam on the
list. There is no plan for any active moderation or membership
control.

For existing members, this should reduce the amount of spam in the
list. Please give it a couple of days to wind down.

New memberships will still be granted automatically. There is no
intention to limit group membership, and new members will be able to
receive and read messages immediately.

For new members, your first post will be moderated. Please allow 24
hours for your first post to go through, and please don't keep
reposting. Once you have posted successfully, you will be allowed to
post freely.

I hope this improves things for all members of android-platform.

Finally! Thanks for doing this, it's probably a massive timesink.

Cheers,

Thanks for that Andy, that's brilliant.

Out of curiosity can you not just apply the Google spam filter that
filters GMail accounts to google groups as well? Save a moderator
having to spend time...

Unfortunately applying Gmail's spam filter to Google Groups isn't
currently possible.

Questions sent directly to me that have no reason for being private
will likely get ignored or forwarded to a public forum with no further
warning.

For anyone who knows...do Groups e-mails get sent straight to Gmail
accounts without filtering; basically, Gmail spam filter considers Groups a
"safe sender?" Just curious, as a lot of the spam gotten from this list
would've been caught normally, I'd have thought.

I get the digests and all but the last two (and a couple of random
ones) were filtered to spam.
